Mompati Mall is set to become the centre of life in Vryburg

The Mompati Mall is launching next Thursday, 26 October in Vryburg, North West. The new 22,700 sqm development, named after local struggle icon Ruth Mompati, will be the first mall in Vryburg.

Twin City, the mall’s developer, said that 750 permanent jobs for the local community will be created through the development, with several upgrades to road, electrical, and water infrastructure in the nearby area also taking place. The mall’s roof is also fitted with solar panels, reducing its dependence on Eskom’s limited supply.  The single-level centre will have 69 retail stores, a food court and a kids’s play area. Some of the mall’s tenants include:

    • McDonald’s
    • Spar
    • Shoprite
    • Mr Price
    • Truworths
    • Wimpy.
    • West Pack Lifestyle

    • Hungry Lion.

Twin City said that the mall will open with festivities, including live music, promotions and special offers.

“Mompati Mall is set to become the centre of life in Vryburg, and we’re so excited to be part of this community investment,” Johan van Wyk, Development Director of Twin City, said.

The mall adds to the increasing number of retail centres opening in remote areas outside of densely populated urban centres.

Last year, there was a massive boom in rural retail nationwide, with several smaller-scale shopping centres (roughly 10,000 sqm) opening their doors.

Despite the dire state of South Africa’s economy and the retail sector, developers are still pushing ahead with projects, with several malls in the pipeline for the coming years
