LiuGong will return to Mining Indaba 2026 with a clear message for Africa’s mining sector, that sustainability and productivity no longer have to be trade-offs. Building on strong engagement at last year’s event, the global equipment manufacturer will use the Cape Town gathering from 9 to 12 February to highlight how its expanding range of electric, zero-emission machines is supporting greener, more efficient mining operations.
Known for its iconic yellow machines across construction, mining and agriculture, LiuGong is increasingly positioning green technology at the core of its offering. Its growing portfolio of electric equipment, branded as Green Machines, reflects the company’s view that decarbonisation, energy efficiency and operational performance must advance together.
Mining Indaba 2026, themed “Stronger together: Progress through partnerships”, provides a fitting platform for this approach. Collaboration between governments, operators, investors and technology providers remains critical as the industry navigates rising environmental expectations while seeking to maintain output and competitiveness.
LiuGong’s participation includes two high-profile engagements focused on the future of mining technology. On 9 February, Consulting Advisor Ian Gebbie will join a panel discussion titled “Mining without compromise – Can mines go zero waste and zero emission while scaling up?” Drawing on more than three decades of industry experience, Gebbie will explore how electrification, battery systems and integrated energy solutions are reshaping mine design and operations.
The following day, 10 February, LiuGong Consulting Advisor and DRA Global CEO James Smith will deliver a keynote address, “Partnering with China to accelerate mining tech in Africa”. His presentation will examine how cross-border partnerships and technology transfer can help African mines adopt advanced, lower-emission equipment at scale.
