Chinese commercial vehicle maker Foton is accelerating its expansion across Southern Africa, targeting growing logistics demand in cross-border trade hubs with the rollout of its new light commercial workhorse the Miler Lite.
Foton South Africa announced that the first shipment of the Miler Lite light commercial vehicle (LCV) will arrive in August, paving the way for nationwide dealership availability and broader regional supply routes servicing land linked neighbours. Positioned in the Code 08 driver’s license category, the 1.6-ton payload truck is specifically tailored for small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) spanning agriculture, construction, and cross-border freight forwarding.
The entry of the Miler Lite comes at a strategic time for traders and transport operators, who rely heavily on cost-effective feeder fleets to bridge haulage gaps between South African ports and copperbelt industrial corridors. Powered by a 92kW (320Nm) Aucan diesel engine paired with a durable commercial chassis, the model provides an economical alternative to heavy-duty trucks without sacrificing payload capacity.

Available in two derivatives starting at R309,900 ($17,200), the range offers safety and comfort options including dual front airbags, air conditioning, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), daytime running lights, and a dropside load body. Foton expects the vehicle to become a core asset for small businesses and regional logistics firms looking to optimize operational costs amidst rising fuel prices and tight economic margins across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
